Dermalogica Calm Water Gel Review

There’s a brand new cruelty free skincare product on the market for those of us who get hit with dryness and sensitivity at the same time. Dermalogica Calm Water Gel is part of their Ultra Calming line. It’s a product that I think a lot of you will love – it’s safe for dry, oily, sensitive and/or acne-prone skin (so just about everybody which is rare!).

Dermalogica Calm Water Gel was created to hydrate and protect sensitive skin without any harsh or irritating ingredients. It’s made with all plant-based ingredients, so it’s vegan and cruelty free. It’s also gluten-free, paraben-free and made without artificical fragrances and colors.

The reason I really like this one is that it doesn’t have any acne-triggering ingredients or oils (the only thing I’m slightly worried about for acne is the iodine from the sea salt but so far I’ve been okay with it), and it has humectants PLUS emollients (you really need both to combat dry skin). So, it essentially pulls moisture into the skin and then locks it in. The humectants are aloe vera, glycerin, apple extract (also has some antioxidant properties), and two types of hyaluronic acid. Dimethicone is an emollient that locks in the moisture. Cactus pear extract helps to soothe sensitive skin and binds water to hydrate.

I think this is a really nice product to have on hand for the winter. It feels weightless on your skin – the complete opposite of a heavy oil or super creamy moisturizer. It layers nicely under makeup, or under a heavier cream if you still think you need that. If your skin is feeling the effects of dry, cold weather, indoor heaters or even sun exposure (it’s still pretty darn sunny here in Los Angeles!), you’ll love this product.
