Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment Review
Okay, so when I first got a sample of this Dermalogica product, I wasn’t that enthused. I have used lip treatments before, and this seemed like an overpriced lip balm. BOY was I wrong! I have persnickety lips that are almost always dry and flaky, or ABOUT to be dry and flaky if I use the wrong lipstick or forget my lip balm at night. Sometimes I get bouts of serious chapped lips that are painful and gross. I get cracks, bleeding, and a ton of rough skin that basically means I can’t wear lipstick for a few weeks. It’s safe to say that long-wear lipstick is not my friend.
A week ago, I was dealing with this chapped nonsense, when I decided to give the Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment a try. I wasn’t expecting much, but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I read the packaging and realized that it’s meant to be used on your lips AND all around your lip area – to keep those “smokers lines” or lip lines away. It felt really weird to put it on the skin around my lips, because I’m so used to NOT doing that (to avoid breakouts from heavy lip balms). But the metal applicator tip made it feel slightly less weird.
Dermalogica calls this product an “antiaging and perioral treatment [that] smoothes the appearance of laugh and feather lines while you sleep.” The applicator is cooling, and the formula goes on like a dream – it’s dimethicone-based, but not greasy like some primers. It actually feels really nice, and gives lips a matte appearance (which is why men will love using it too). Seriously not a heavy, greasy product like I was expecting. It’s meant to reduce and prevent fine lines around the lips, add some volume (over time), and hydrate.
Like I said, I’ve used lip treatments before and felt that they were mostly gimmicky. I used the Michael Todd lip treatment in the past and didn’t see any immediate effects, so I gave up on it. But this product blew my mind – somehow it got rid of all the dead chapped skin on my lips and made them baby-soft and ready for lipstick again! That’s not really something Dermalogica says it will do. I mean yes, they say it’s hydrating, but so are all of the heavy lanolin, shea butter, coconut oil, and other lip products I’ve tried! I wasn’t expecting it to get rid of the dead skin. It tingled a little the first time I used it on my VERY badly chapped and cracked lips, but nothing crazy. By the third use, there was no tingle at all.
I also didn’t feel that it was doing any painful exfoliation or anything like that (like Carmex with it’s AHAs that dry out your skin). The active ingredients are Indian Gentian extract, sesame seed extract and “Volumizing Technology” (whatever the heck that means). It also has shea butter, aloe vera, apple fruit, sodium hyaluronate and sodium PCA. But I’m wondering if the dimethicone is what did the trick for me. Or maybe it’s just witchcraft – hard to say. Either way, I’m completely sold, and I will gladly pay $49 to restock this one! It’s a large tube, and will last me a long time. I use it at least once a day (at bedtime), but occasionally I’ll reach for it during the day as well. You can find the Nightly Lip Treatment on Dermalogica’s website.

Wooohoo!
I am so glad to have found this! Every winter is a misery because my lips get dehydrated and start to bleed, I was trying to find something to prevent fine lines around the lips too. This treatment seems to have it all! I will definitely try it, no more bleeding lips. Thank YOU!

Got this in a sub box too. I have chronically dry, peeling lips, I can peel a whole layer off & not even 10 min later they are peeling again (anemia does play a role in mine). I wholeheartedly agree with your review! Purchasing the full size asap & will probably put it on auto ship if available! This is seriously the only thing that has cured my poor sufferring lips! I wish I could purchase the sample sizes to keep in in my purse & in my car since I will use this product 24/7…it’s LOVE! Total bonus that it helps with lip lines:)
