5 DIY Hair Masks For Shiny Hair
You could spend a small fortune on specialty hair masks or you could use all natural ingredients and make your own. Fruits, vegetables, honey and oils are commonly used to moisturize, strengthen and repair your hair. Using these masks once a week can help revitalize your hair so it’s healthier and shinier.
Lightweight Moisture (Vegan)
For those with oilier hair, this lightweight moisturizing mask prevents dry, frizzy ends and repairs damage. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to make.
Blend one ripe banana until it’s completely smooth. Add in one tablespoon of honey. Apply the mix evenly to your hair and wrap your hair in a shower cap or towel. Rinse out after 15-20 minutes and wash as usual.
Healing Egg Mask
Eggs are the ultimate nourishing product for your hair. They’re full of nutrients to strengthen, repair, add shine and encourage hair growth. This mask is ideal for general hair health.
Combine 1 egg (2 for long hair), 1 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and squeeze in one lemon. If you have oily hair, only use the egg white. For dry hair, only use the yolk. For normal hair, use the entire egg.
Apply evenly to hair and cover with a shower cap to prevent dripping. Leave in for 15-20 minutes and rinse out using cool water. Do not use hot water to rinse. Shampoo as usual.
Hair Balancing Mask (Vegan)
This mask combines several ingredients that help moisturize, prevent oiliness, nourish the scalp and heal damaged hair. It’s a great alternative to the egg mask if you’re vegan or would prefer not to separate eggs.
Combine 2 well-blended bananas, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of honey. You’ll need a blender to blend the bananas completely.
Apply thickly to hair and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Cover with a shower cap for best results. Rinse your hair and comb gently to remove any excess.
Revive And Nourish
Get the benefits of eggs and add in an extra does of moisture with this simple mask. Start by blending together half an avocado and 1 egg yolk. Apply to hair, focusing on the ends. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse. Shampoo as usual.
Frizz Fighter
You only need to use this mask once a month to fight frizz. Plus, it moisturizes and soothes your scalp.
Combine half a cup of plain yogurt, half a cup of honey and 1 tablespoon of almond oil. Apply evenly to your hair and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse well and shampoo as usual.

Hi, thank you for this interesting article. I wanted to say that I use egg masks and olive oil on my bleached hair with a regular use of professional shampoos/contitioners. And I must say it works very nice for me. Of couse I have been blonde always, I am not changing my hair color every half year, so that help too 🙂
Thanks for the great share.

Great article Jen! I have been using commercial hair products but I am not satisfied with my hair condition and still haven’t got rid of some of my hair problems. I guess I have to resort to natural hair care and I am excited to try these masks that you suggested. I am excited for good results! What mask should I try first?
